How to make any laptop into a touchscreen laptop
For almost a decade touch screens have invaded the digital market and in recent years many laptops to have started to come with the touchscreen functionality for e.g. Lenovo Yoga and some Chromebooks.
While some may have got the opportunity (or budget) to have touchscreen laptops others may have not. However today I happy to share with you all a device that can turn your normal laptop into a touchscreen laptop. Surprised?
Designed by Neonode, the AirBar comes in the form of a metal bar a few centimeters wide with a thickness of around 5 mm.
Equipped with magnets, it will find its place under the screen of your brand new (or old) laptop. Once in place, simply connect it to a USB port of your machine to activate it and enjoy its functions.
So, rather than leaving your PC in a drawer to buy a hybrid, wouldn't it be better to opt for a small gadget that can transform the screen of your computer into a touch interface?
The device projects an invisible field of light making it possible for you to interact naturally with your computer screen, such as, by moving a window, enlarging a photo, clicking on a link or drawing with a finger, a stylus or even a brush.
The AirBar makes no distinction between a finger, a glove, a pencil; it works in a general manner regardless of the matter that comes into contact with this light field.
If the principle of the AirBar seems very simple, the technical details of its operation are very meager. It is about a system of projection of a light beam from a bar placed in the lower part of the screen. Touch gestures are recognized when the fingers interfere with this invisible field.
The device is responsible for transcribing all the movements in gestures recognizable by the operating system. If you tap an icon on your desktop, for example, then the AirBar will launch the dedicated application, just as if your PC had a touchscreen.
Neonode has developed several versions of this gadget in different sizes. The AirBar comes in 13.3, 14 or 15.6 inches and will be able to work with most of the laptops that are available in the market. It also does not need calibration.
The product is not only compatible with Windows but also with macOS and Chromebooks and it should offer exactly the same functions.
